Model of the Hippodrome Comes Home to the city

The wonderful model of the Coventry Hippodrome has arrived back in the city this weekend and is now on display in the pop-up exhibition area of the front office in the former Coventry Evening Telegraph offices. It was last seen at a History Fair during Heritage Open Days several years ago, but now the model will remain in Coventry having been placed in the care of the Historic Coventry Trust, a body formed to acquire, restore and re-use the city’s heritage buildings.

The world-class modellers, Peter and Sally Lee almost lost count of the large number of buildings they have reproduced in miniature, many of great historic interest. They have displayed them at countless modelling fairs, but now in retirement are placing their works of art into the hands of museums and trusts around the country.

Alongside in the pop-up is the art deco Forum Cinema that once stood in Walsgrave Road. That will also pass into the ownership of the Coventry trust.

Peter and Sally Lee will be pleased to receive visitors at the pop-up event between 11am and 1pm at the former CET office on Saturday 1st July.
