Whilst other heritage buildings in Coventry currently lie derelict, underused or have simply vanished, it is pleasing to see that elsewhere in the city centre our heritage assets are being preserved and actively restored.
Numbers 38-41 Far Gosford Street are now surrounded by scaffolding and have temporary roof coverings which signal the start of restoration works. Numbers 38-40 are Grade II listed buildings and are believed to be 16th century in origin, still containing much of their original timber framing. Number 41 was demolished in part some years ago owing to health and safety concerns although it is understood that this will now be rebuilt.
The buildings to be restored are amongst the most run down and derelict buildings in Far Gosford Street and we are therefore pleased to see that they are being rescued in their 11th hour before their fate became sealed.
Meanwhile construction work continues further along Far Gosford Street on the site of the former SCALA Cinema. An office building is under construction by developers Complex Development Projects and at the current rate of building works we imagine that the building will be completed within the next 6-12 months.
We are delighted to see that the old and the new are being combined to produce a regeneration scheme of outstanding quality and we now look forward to learning about the mixed uses and variety of occupiers which these buildings will play host to in future.
